Ralph Meyers, who has been a groundskeeper on the SFSC Highlands Campus for the last 35 years, was awarded West Sebring Volunteer Fire Department “Firefighter of the Year” during the Department’s Annual Awards Ceremony and Christmas Celebration in December 2024. Meyers has been a volunteer with the fire station for 33 years.
According to a news story, Station 9 Captain Francisco Olivero said of Meyers, “He has dedicated his life to being part of the Department. He is one of those people that, no matter what the situation is, he is always willing and ready to work. I have learned a lot from him, from his compassion. He always likes to help no matter what the situation is. He is part of the organization.”
Although Meyers recently decided to step away from responding to calls, he plans to stay active with the West Sebring Volunteer Fire Department by performing cleaning duties around the station.
The West Sebring Volunteer Fire Department is located at 3517 Hammock Road.
When you see Meyers in the morning as you drive in to work or as you walk around campus, don’t forget to say, “Thank you for your service; thank you for helping to keep us safe.”
