SFSC held a Veterans Day ceremony and remembrance walk on Friday, Nov. 10, on the Highlands Campus. Dr. Brent Ferns, SFSC dean of Applied Sciences and Technologies and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, welcomed the crowd and explained the importance of the day.

“Today, we want to honor the men and women who served in every branch of our military,” Dr. Ferns said. “By tradition, this ceremony is held on Nov. 11 — on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, when the cease fire was officially declared at the end of World War I. To allow for our College community to be able to attend, we held it a day early, which happens to be the birth of the U.S. Marine Corps. Happy Birthday, Marines!”

“On this Veterans Day, let us come together to express our deepest appreciation for their sacrifices and to reflect on the profound impact they had in shaping the course of history. Today, we stand united in recognizing and celebrating the indominable spirit of our veterans,” said Dr. Michele Heston, vice president for Academic Affairs and Student Services.
